ACUPUNCTURE SERVICES
Restore Balance Naturally With Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine
Calm, restorative care built around what your body needs.
Beyond the Acupuncture needles…
From the moment you arrive, Mary (our Registered Acupuncturist & TCMP) creates a calm, supportive space where you feel heard and cared for. She begins with a thoughtful conversation to understand your unique concerns and curates a treatment that is specific to you. Her treatments can include Acupuncture, TuiNa Massage, Cupping, Moxibustion, InfraRed Heat, Aromatherapy, Sound therapy, guided relaxation and more.
It is a truly restorative and deeply relaxing experience designed to create and hold space for your healing to occur. Mary cues all of the senses to remind the nervous system of what deep calm feels like, something so many of us forget in our day to day lives. And, feeling cared for is something we all deserve.
How Acupuncture Can Help
Acupuncture is the placement of thin needles into specific points on the body. The points are like little energy wells, when simulated they will help correct the flow of qi (energy) and blood along the meridians. It sometimes helps to imagine a kinked-up garden hose where the flow is off. Acupuncture is a technique that un-kinks that flow by correcting the channel in which the qi and blood flows along, by doing this, it corrects many manifestations along the way.
Treatments are always individualized based on your health history, current symptoms and goals. People commonly seek acupuncture at The Root for support with:
- Pain relief including neck, back, shoulder and joint pain
- Muscle tension and injuries
- Headaches and migraines
- Stress, anxiety and nervous system regulation
- Insomnia and sleep concerns
- Fatigue
- Digestive concerns
- PMS and menstrual concerns
- Perimenopause and menopause symptoms
- Fertility and preconception
- Pregnancy-related concerns
- Labour preparation
What To Expect From Acupuncture Treatment
Your appointment begins with a conversation about how you’re feeling, your health concerns and what you would like support with. Your treatment may combine acupuncture with other Traditional Chinese Medicine and complimentary therapies to complement your care such as:

Cupping
Cupping uses gentle suction over specific areas of the body and may be incorporated to support circulation and address areas of muscle tension, pain or discomfort. Temporary circular marks or discoloration can occur following cupping and typically fade with time.

Moxibustion
Moxibustion, or moxa, is a Traditional Chinese Medicine heat therapy that may be used to warm specific acupuncture points or areas of the body as part of your individualized treatment.

Tui Na Massage
Tui Na is a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine bodywork that uses massage, pressure and movement techniques. It may be incorporated before or after acupuncture to complement your treatment.

Complementary Therapies
Mary may also incorporate infrared heat, aromatherapy, sound therapy, Reiki, guided meditation, breathwork or other relaxation techniques into your session when appropriate.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is acupuncture covered by insurance?
Many extended health plans cover acupuncture, though coverage varies depending on your plan and which practitioner you see. We recommend confirming your individual benefits with your insurance provider.
What can I expect at my first acupuncture appointment?
Your appointment begins with a conversation about how you’re feeling, your health concerns, and what you’d like support with. From there, your treatment is tailored to you and may combine acupuncture with complementary therapies like cupping, moxibustion, Tui Na massage, or relaxation techniques.
Will cupping leave marks?
Cupping can leave temporary circular marks or discoloration on the skin. These typically fade with time.
Can acupuncture be combined with other therapies?
Yes. Depending on your treatment, acupuncture may be combined with cupping, moxibustion, Tui Na massage, infrared heat, aromatherapy, sound therapy, Reiki, or guided relaxation.
Do you offer acupuncture for fertility or pregnancy?
Yes. Fertility Acupuncture and Pregnancy + Pre-Birth Acupuncture are both available through our acupuncture and naturopathic teams, and can support you through natural conception, IUI, IVF, and the stages of pregnancy through labour preparation.
Is Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture right for everyone?
Not always. It may not be appropriate if you’re currently pregnant, experience chronic migraines, have uncontrolled or significantly elevated blood pressure, or have received Botox, dermal fillers, or microdermabrasion within the previous four weeks.
